Confidentiality Classes – Traffic Light Protocol (TLP)

Introduction
The Traffic Light Protocol (TLP) was created in order to facilitate greater sharing of information. TLP is a set of designations used to ensure that sensitive information is shared with the appropriate audience. It employs four colors to indicate expected sharing boundaries to be applied by the recipient(s). TLP only has four colors; any designations not listed in this standard are not considered valid by FIRST.

intended only for the selected recipients; transmission is prohibited

 

only for certain recipients or recipient groups; conditional forwarding within the organisation allowed (only on a need-to-know basis)

only for certain recipients or recipient groups, conditional disclosure within the organisation and to external parties (e.g. customers) allowed (solely on a need-to-know basis)

only for certain recipients or recipient groups, conditional disclosure within parties/groups of persons with a legitimate interest. Publication in all publicly accessible channels is not permitted.
